The Lost Stars refer to the five civillians that comprised of the mission team in the OV Sagittarius Orbital Flight Incident. All of them come from normal civillian backgrounds with no formal astronaut training whatsoever, which makes there presence on the OV Sagittarius Space Shuttle even more unlikely. On August 9, 1982, Piper Hopkins, mother of Jane Hopkins, went to the press to report her daughter was missing after being recruited by NASA and sent into space, which opened the floodgates of many other relatives of the five coming forward to back Piper's claim. There has been no proof that these five were ever in contact with NASA, much less is there evidence they were sent into space. However, the last any of them were seen was June 19th, and to this day, they have not been seen again.
The name "The Lost Stars" was penned by Henry Speeter, son of late journalist Daniel Speeter, in his personal blog he wrote about the Sagittarius Incident 15 years following the death of his father. The blog has since been made unavailable to the public, likely taken down after Henry's death in memoriam.
History
Note: Everything written here is alleged, due to the hoax nature of this incident. Most information present on this page is speculative or based on popular fan theory by Henry Speeter.
Background
It's commonly believed in popular theories that the five members of The Lost Stars were contacted sometime around late March to early April to be recruited by NASA for the Sagittarius mission. All five members had found themselves in an unusual spot of financial hardship, which is the reason many Hoaxers give as to why they would accept such a random proposition. It's assumed that inbetween the months of their recruitment and the alleged takeoff of the OV Sagittarius that they were given extremely basic training on how to navigate and conduct themselves when in space.
Going Missing
According to Piper Hopkins, the last time she saw her daughter was the morning of June 19, which is the latest reported date that any member of The Lost Stars were seen. Piper claims that her daughter said she would only be gone for about a month. Come August 9, Piper had grown worried due to her daughter not returning home and decided to go public with the information she had. Following this, the families of all the members, with the exception of Maxwell Coates, came forward, saying their loved ones had also never returned home, which started the investigation into the five missing people.
In the months to follow, extensive investigation into both NASA and the reporting families were done. Investigators looking into NASA did so under the pretense that NASA was covering up an experiment in which they utilized civillians to avoid possible harm to their own staff, while investigators looking into the families did so under the pretense that this was a large scale hoax started to garner attention and money. This notion is furthered by the fact that, with the exception of Coates, all the other members of The Lost Stars would've been the first in their category into space.
- Jane Hopkins would've been the youngest woman in space.
- Lenora and Phillip Davenport would've been the first married couple in space.
- Lemmar Shaw would've been the first African American in space.
For these reasons, it was widely accepted that this was a publicity stunt. However, both investigations came up empty. NASA was found to have no affiliation with the five civillians, and the families of said civillians are said have no connection to the disappearances of their loved ones, nor did any of the familes have any contact with each other. On top of this, there seems to be no prior connection amongst any of the members of The Lost Stars, and there are no traqces of any of them having contact with one another before late to mid April, which still beggars the question of how the five got into contact in the first place. To this day, none of the members of The Lost Stars have had a reported sighting.
Members
Maxwell Coates

Maxwell Pierre Coates (July 17, 1954- Unknown) was a Carpenter who worked at his father's carpentry shop is Des Moines, Iowa prior to his disappearance in June of 1982. In almost all popular theories about the Sagittarius Incident, Maxwell Coates is the Commander of the mission. Maxwell was born and raised in Des Moines, never leaving and was a skilled carpenter. He had limited knowledge on flying planes thanks to his father, a retired Air Force Veteran, which is why many people attribute him to being Commander of the OV Sagittarius.
Peple who knew him described him as earnest and kind, extremely intelligent, but a bit reserved. He dropped out of Grinell College after his first year to aid his father in his carpentry business and was said to have been doing that ever since. He was an only child, and his mother passed in the summer of 1981, leaving his father as his last living relative. It's believed the reason he faked his death was to provide for his father, however this rationale is rocky as his father was well off.
In many theories and interpretations of the Sagittarius Incident, he is cited in having a key role in keeping the crew together and prolonging their survival for as long as possible. He is often cited as the second to last to die, either dying simultaneously with Shaw, or shortly before. There is no evidence to support this notion, however one of the few things that is uniform amongst almost all interpretations of the incident is that Maxwell Coates was among the final 2 alive. He is often depicted as being close with Lemmy Shaw and Jane Hopkins, while distant from the Davenports. Rumors have circulated that audio logs from his time on the Sagittarius exist somewhere, but no evidence of that has ever been presented.

Jane Hopkins

Jane Grace Hopkins (December 5, 1961 - Unknown) was a Sophomore at the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota prior to her disappearance in June of 1982 and was the youngest member rumored to be on the OV Sagittarius. She had no flight knowledge of any kind and was studying to become a nurse.
People who knew her described her as softspoken, but a true friend who was always there when you needed her. Shy and reserved, she tended to keep to herself and avoid large gatherings or spreading rumors, which has caused her friends and family to heavily doubt NASA's claims that they never reached out to her, since it would be entirely out of character for Jane to lie about such a thing. NASA still maintains that they have no knowledge of Jane, however it was her family that caused the Sagittarius Hoax to gain worldwide traction and still to this day, her friends and family persist in pushing the effort of finding Jane. Before being allegdly chosen for the Sagittarius Expedition, Jane had incurred a lot of student debt to afford to go to college. This is believed to be the reason why her death was faked.
In many interpretations of the Sagittarius Incident, Jane is cited as being close with Lenora Davenport and Maxwell Coates, while tending to avoid Phillip Davenport. It is often cited that she died shortly after Lenora Davenport.
Rumors started circulating shortly after Henry Speeter's blog came out that Jane had kept a diary in which she had written entries leading up to June 19. These diary entries were made into a blog website of their own, but was soon taken down out of respect for the Hopkins Family. No traces of it seem to exist online, furthering the idea tha this online blog was a hoax as well.

Lenora and Phil Davenport

Lenora Jane Davenport (née Orville; January 29, 1947 - Unknown) and Phillip Casper Davenport (November 5, 1943 - Unknown) were a married couple from Lubbock, Texas. Lenora was a school teacher and Phillip worked as bouncer for a popular jazz bar prior to their disappearances in 1982. Neither of them had any flight knowledge of any kind.
People who knew the couple well described them as a picture of a happy marriage, but beneath the veneer of it all, the marriage wasn't as perfect as it appeared on the outside, with Phillip having a tendency of getting drunk and verbally accosting Lenora. Lenora was described as being fiery though, able to hold her ground against Phillip without buckling. In an interview she did back in 1979, after being dubbed Teacher of the Year for the state of Texas, she said she couldn't have done it without the support of her husband, implying that to some extent, their relationship wasn't always rocky. Phillip is often described as being fun to be around and joke around with, but that he could become very intense very fast. It's also commonly reported that Phillip had a tendecy to spew racist rhetoric at times, much to Lenora's chargin. Before being allegdly chosen for the Sagittarius Expedition, the couple had allegdly fallen on hard times, having incurred medical debt after Phillip was roughed up badly on the job. This is believed to be the reason why their deaths were faked.
In many interpretations of the Sagittarius Incident, Phillip is often reported as being the first person to die as a result of whatever occured on that ship. Some popular sources even go on to say that Lenora is the one who killed him, fed up with his mistreatment of her as well as fellow crewmate Lemmar Shaw, who would've likely had tension with Phhillip due to Phillip's remarks. Lenora is cited to have died after Phillip and before Jane, but there's no proof of this.

Lemmar Shaw

Lemmar Shaw (September 30, 1956 - Unknown) was a trumpet player from Harlem, New York prior to his disappearance in 1982. He had no flight knowledge.
People who knew Lemmar described him a precocious, always looking for an adventure and always restless. He was able to get along with just about anybody and had a tendency to goof off, but when it came down to brass tacks, he was someone you could rely on to get the job done. Before being allegdly chosen for the Sagittarius Expedition, he lived in his mother and father's tenement with his four siblings as a result of having been kicked out his apartment after failing to pay rent due to paying for the funeral of his younger cousin. This is believed to be the reason why his death was faked.
In many interpretations of the Sagittarius Incidient, Lemmar is often reported to be the last person to die, and could possibly be the sole survivor of this incident, though there's no proof of this, and this is only posited in Henry Speeter's interpretation of events. He is said to have survived with Maxwell Coates for much longer than the Davenports and Jane. It's cited that he and Maxwell became close frinds on the Sagittarius, and it's also cited he was close friends with Jane Hopkins, taking an older brother or best friend role in many interpretations. It's theorized that he and Phillip likely had issues with each other aboard the Sagittarius due to Phillip's racist remarks. He is commonly believed to be because he was a last minute addition to the team, which is theorized to intitially have been only a team of four. This implies that whoever recruited him likely liked him or found him to be an extremely intriguing specimen to use for whatever study NASA was trying to conduct via the Sagittarius expedition. However, there's no proof of this, and that may just be a microagressive sentiment among the Hoaxers. .
